Two weeks till the premiere of the new episodes of Doctor Who in the UK!
Four weeks till the premiere of the new episodes of Doctor Who in Canada,
the USA, and Australia. The clock is ticking.
No surprise, but it has been confirmed that Doctor Who will make a Christmas
special for 2010 and do another 13 episode series for 2011.
CANADA - SPACE http://www.spacecast.com has put up preliminary TV schedules for 17 and 18 April. Doctor Who airs Saturdays at 9PM EDT/6PM PST as expected. It also airs Sundays at Noon and 7PM EDT/9AM and 4PM PDT. The Eleventh Hour is in a 60 minute slot, implying either very limited commercials, an edited episode, or the schedule will need revising in the weeks ahead. SPACE's usual policy is to air programs uncut if they are supplied uncut - since BBC America claims to have the unedited UK versions for the premieres and SPACE is likely getting copies from the same source, the hope is for unedited episodes.
UK - BBC Radio 7 http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio7 is going to have some new to
radio Doctor Who themed programming soon. Sundays at 6PM and Midnight BST
for 7 weeks starting 28 March, they will air ex Doctor Who producer Barry
Letts' autobiography Who And Me, as read by himself prior to his passing in
2009. Encores of the Paul McGann 8th Doctor Big Finish audio stories that
have previously aired on Radio 7 will air Sundays at 6:30PM and 12:30AM BST.
Also coming in April, audio versions of certain TARGET novelizations of
classic Doctor Who stories, read by Tom Baker. Everything that will air has
previously been released to buy on CD. Hoping to update the TARGET info
with some dates and times soon.
UK - The SciFi Channel UK http://www.scifi.co.uk will air a weekend of >span class="dw-title">Classic Doctor Who stories from the 4th, 5th, and 6th Doctors from Good Friday 2 April through Easter Monday 5 April. Selected stories will each air twice in movie format. This marathon will be on at the same time as a David Tennant Doctor Who marathon on Watch, Sarah Jane episodes on CBBC, the official UK premiere of K-9 on Disney XD (Saturday 3 April 4PM), and the first episodes of the series for Doctor Who (BBC One, BBC HD, probably BBC Three encore) and Doctor Who Confidential (BBC Three, BBC HD). SciFi has aired a classic Doctor Who marathon on a holiday weekend before, but has yet to pick the 1963-1989 run up for its regular schedule.
Publicity for the new Doctor Who episodes seem to be listing them as Series
5, in spite of current showrunner Steven Moffat's earlier claims that this
is the 31st series of Doctor Who or the 1st series, depending on how you
looked at it, but never Series 5. TWIDW is staying out of this issue. The
episodes from 1963 to 1989 are understood to be in 26 seasons/series, so
they will be noted as such. For 2005 and beyond, TWIDW is going by the year
of the episode. Rose would be 2005-01. The Runaway Bride would be 2006-Xmas.
Journey's End would be 2008-13. Planet Of The Dead would be 2009-01. And so
forth. Given the time to write TWIDW, it is possible some old notations
might survive in today's edition.
The podcast section will hopefully be back together by April. As of now, I
plan to include it in the Spinoffs portion of the column, as pairing it with
the PBS stations was too long for email purposes.
The official cast list for the 2010 Doctor Who series:
The Doctor: Matt Smith
Amy Pond: Karen Gillan
For press releases on Doctor Who, keep an eye on the BBC Press Office

Listings for PBS and Podcasts are in This Week In Doctor Who PBS and
Podcasts. Sarah Jane Adventures and K9 are in This Week In Doctor Who
Spinoffs. Torchwood info is in Torchwood This Week.
